Why Anime is Better than Western Cartoons

Anime are Japanese animated cartoons; though the oldest known Japanese animation was in 1917, Anime is now extremely popular in Japan and throughout the world. Western animation are cartoons made in places on the Western hemisphere, especially America. Anime is better than Western cartoons because of the story-lines, Japanese culture, the animation, all of the different types of Anime, and cos playing.

Most Western cartoons have different story-lines for each episode, where all of the events or experiences that go on are wrapped up by the end of the half-hour. Anime storylines are much more involved; they continue over the course of the whole season or even several seasons. “Bleach,” “One Piece,” and “Naruto” are known for having storylines that last for hundreds of episodes.

Also, Japanese culture is not scared to mention death, for example. Not all Anime have happy endings. Sometimes protagonists die and sometimes antagonists win. This makes the episodes seem more realistic because life is not always fair.

The Anime look is inferred as big eyes and small mouth. People know the anime look when they see it. The hair, clothes, and many other attributes are exaggerated to make more of a visual impact.

American cartoons are usually either comedy or action. Most people think that Anime are the same, but there are actually many types. Action, drama, horror, science-fiction, or game-based are some different genres of anime. Also there are many different themes of Anime such as robots (Mecha), fighting teams (Sentai), and many more like bishojo, bishonen, post-apocalyptic, maho shojo, maho shonen, moe, expertise, lolicon, shotacon, harem, reverse harem, magical girlfriend, and tsundere. There are even anime gear towards types of people like young girls (Shojo), young boys (Shonen), teenage boys (Seinen), young women (Josei), and young children (Kodomo). Anime has themes for just about every type of person so anyone can enjoy many series. The viewer sees ideas or concepts that they have always wanted to see but could not until Anime came out.

Cos play is short for costume play. It also started in Japan where they call it コスプレ (kosupure), which is a type of performing art in which people dress up in costumes and accessories to represent a character or idea. Characters are often drawn from Anime. Inanimate objects are given anthropomorphic forms and have human characteristics. It is not unusual to see genders changed even, with women playing male roles and men playing female roles. Cos play may be compared to Halloween, but the intention of cos play is accurately to replicate the specific character instead of to show the celebration of a holiday. The characters chosen to be cos-played may be sourced from any movie, television series, book, comic book, video game, Anime, or Manga, which is Japanese comics. Although, one may still dress up as one’s favorite Anime character for Halloween.

Overall, Anime are better and more enjoyable to watch than Western cartoons because the storylines are more involved, the Anime are more realistic, the animation is more impacting, there are many types of Anime, and the tradition of cos playing.
